Yesterday we went on a tour to Lei Yue Mu, where we saw: a historic fishing village, a wet market, a disasterous temple, had a seafood lunch, and attended a dumpling making workshop.
As always, the pictures are terribly out of order.
My dumplings! uncooked..

The women placed our dumplings to steam for 10 minutes:

Cooked and sticky, they are rice flour based and filled with red bean

Logically, the assembly process should have proceeded the cooked dumplings. You can see the ball of red bean in the back. We placed the dumplings on oiled bamboo leaves to prevent them from sticking.

Wishes for a bountiful, fishy harvest:

So at this temple I had the distinct pleasure of hot ashes falling from the incense coils onto my head. It was so hot I thought my hair had caught fire! Anyway, it is thought to have been built by pirates as a way to hide their gold without suspicion.
bob and i like your squid-shaped dumpling. :)
